ORTHOPEDIC SPINE SURGEONS

Nima Salari, M.D., FAAOS

  • Dr. Salari is a Board Certified, Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon with specialized training in the operative and non-operative treatment of pathologic conditions affecting the spine. His treatment philosophy exhausts all means of conservative care and less invasive surgical techniques before ever recommending spinal fusion. He specializes in ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery and cervical artificial disc replacement. These surgical techniques are excellent spine fusion alternatives and have the highest patient satisfaction scores. Spine fusion alternatives are usually ultra or minimally-invasive tissue-sparing approaches that allow for the fastest recovery times and minimize postoperative pain.

    In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Salari has been involved in various orthopedic research projects involving the musculoskeletal system. He has published numerous articles and book chapters on the topic of minimally invasive surgery. He has helped design surgical instruments and implants in use today for several international companies. He teaches national and international courses in the latest laser-assisted endoscopic techniques and image-guided surgeries. He serves as a contributing team physician for local collegiate and professional sports teams.

  • After spending his high school years in Germany, he enrolled in the Bioengineering program at the University of Pittsburgh. A University Scholar and on the Dean’s List, he graduated summa cum laude with honors in 2003. He then received his M.D. degree from Temple University and earned membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society in 2006. Dr. Salari completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2012. He then went on to complete a fellowship dedicated to spine surgery at Stanford University.

    He rapidly earned top marks with his patients (U.S.News, Healthgrades, Vitals, RateMDs, Yelp, WebMD) and peer recognition as a PHOENIX magazine “Top Doc” in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. He received the most votes for “Top Doc” in Orthopedic Surgery of the Spine in 2022.

    Dr. Salari is a member of many professional organizations, including the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

    When not working, he enjoys travel, a variety of sports activities, and spending time with his family.

Ankit Patel, D.O.

  • Dr. Ankit Patel is a highly regarded Interventional pain physician practicing at Elite Pain and Spine Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Patel is board certified in Anesthesiology and fellowship trained in Pain Medicine.

    Dr. Patel moved to Arizona from England in 2005 and spent the following 8 years graduating from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and subsequently obtaining his medical degree from Midwestern University. He then moved to Oklahoma for his residency training at the Oklahoma University Health Science Center in Anesthesiology. During residency, Dr. Patel developed a strong interest in the field of pain management through active research and clinical rotations. He consequently completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the University of Toledo Medical Center where he was trained by current world leaders and researchers in the field of pain medicine.

    Dr. Patel uses a multi-disciplinary approach to combat pain, including interventional pain procedures, medical management, and physical and behavioral therapy. He has robust training in various treatment modalities, including advanced procedures like spinal cord/DRG stimulation, interspinous spacers, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty and intrathecal drug delivery systems. He is also very skilled in interventional injections including radiofrequency rhizotomy techniques, epidural steroid injections, selective nerve blocks, and joint injections. His mission is to provide functional restoration for those suffering from chronic pain. He strives to treat all of his patients on an individual basis with compassionate care and help them improve their quality of life.

    In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He enjoys watching and playing tennis and soccer. Having undergone schooling in 3 different countries, Dr. Patel developed a passion to learn and experience different cultures at an early age. Dr. Patel loves traveling and he really believes that “To travel is to live.”

Maaz Iqbal, M.D.

  • Dr. Iqbal is practically an Arizona native having lived here since he was 5 years old. After growing up in the east valley, Dr. Iqbal decided to move to Tucson to pursue his passion for medicine. Loving the University of Arizona, he would stay there to complete his undergraduate, medical school, residency, and fellowship training. Having spent more than a decade in Tucson completing his studies, Dr. Iqbal decided it was time to move back to the valley and provide quality medical care in his hometown. He has been practicing in the East Valley for over 3 years now and plans to stay for many years to come. Dr. Iqbal was trained by top experts and researchers in the field of pain medicine and is well versed in all aspects of pain management care. He offers advanced treatment modalities such as spinal cord/DRG stimulation, kyphoplasty for compression fractures, and regenerative treatments as well as traditional and alternative pain management treatment modalities. Dr. Iqbal strives to evaluate and treat every patient on an individual basis to provide the best multimodal approach to address his/her chronic pain symptoms.

    In his spare time, Dr. Iqbal loves spending time with his beautiful wife and children. He enjoys playing and watching sports like basketball, football, and tennis and is a firm believer that physical activity plays a big role in reducing chronic pain. He also loves working on cars and doing DIY projects around the house.

Zeeshan Malik, D.O.

  • Dr. Zeeshan Malik is an Interventional pain physician practicing at Elite Pain and Spine Institute in Mesa, AZ. Dr. Malik is board certified in anesthesiology and fellowship trained in interventional pain medicine.

    Born and raised in Queens, New York, Dr. Malik began his journey in medicine after moving to Arizona to obtain his medical degree from Midwestern University. It was during his time as a medical student that Dr. Malik was initially exposed to and became interested pain medicine. He decided to further pursue this field by completing his residency training in anesthesiology at Louisiana State University- Shreveport. Dr. Malik continued on to fellowship in interventional pain at LSU-SHV as well. Throughout his fellowship, Dr. Malik was trained by experts in the field of pain medicine while simultaneously teaching as anesthesia staff. During this time, Dr. Malik was awarded the ASRA World Pain Fellow Scholarship. Dr. Malik’s clinical experience and training included nerve stimulator therapy, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, intrathecal drug delivery, regenerative medicine, extensive rhizotomy procedures, and much more.

    Dr. Malik also participated in a multitude of research that has enabled him to better understand the complexity of pain management.
